The 1830's religious Shaker society of Pleasant Hill, Kentucky, is changed when the arrival of a new member upsets the harmony of this tight-knit religious community. Her ecstatic experience creates a ripple effect through the women and raises the question- what religious experiences are valid and who determines their validity?
