Senbazuru is a tradition often associated with the story of Sadako Sasaki and Hiroshima; however, we want to give a fresh take on the meaning of folding one thousand paper cranes with this production. Senbazuru symbolize wishfulness and longevity; thus, the thousand paper cranes are a representation of what we wish for our local Japanese American community—specifically, Little Tokyo. The drama this year is an antithesis of what we want to see in our generation, a cautionary tale that illustrates what may happen if we do not act as the change we wish to see.
