Are you pre-med, pre-health, interested in public health or just would like to be more involved with the community? Would you like to help prevent Sudden Cardiac Arrest among young athletes?
Saving Hearts is a club that strives to prevent Sudden Cardiac Arrest by providing free heart screenings to the youth in the greater Los Angeles area.
What is Sudden Cardiac Arrest?
Sudden Cardiac Arrest is an abnormality in the hearts electrical system that can lead to sudden death. Often this abnormality goes undetected in a child’s annual physical exam, which is why between 5,000-7.000 youth die annually because of SCA. It’s rated the #1 killer of student-athletes.

What can you do as a volunteer?
We want UCLA students to participate in our screenings by performing EKGs, blood pressure tests, interacting with the youth, and learning how to identify underlying heart conditions that could lead to Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Performing and interpreting EKG’s is a very unique hands-on experience!
Upcoming events you can volunteer at:
-Heart screening at Long Beach Poly High School on February 6th, 2016
-Heart screening at Bonita Vista High School on April 30th, 2016 (tentative date)
IT’S IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE AS A VOLUNTEER FOR SAVING HEARTS, YOU MUST ATTEND THE GBM!!
Snacks will be provided :)
