The University of Southern California's chapter of Alpha Phi Omega (APO), the Alpha Kappa chapter, was founded in June 1934. Since then, we have remained active on the USC campus and have provided the community with thousands of hours of community service over the years.
On campus, we support many community service events such as Friends and Neighbors Day, Spirits at Troy, Dance Marathon, and numerous other fundraising drives. We also host a number of large service events every semester, such as a benefit concert to provide food and blankets for the homeless, or an educational day for local students.
In the local community, our volunteer work is far-reaching and impactful. Inner city tutoring, graffiti cleanups, college preparation, animal care, and charity fundraisers are only a few examples of the many diverse service programs we participate in. We complete approximately 6,500 hours of service each year.
Although service is our main purpose, we also value the bonds formed between our members and cultivate those friendships as much as possible. When we’re not doing community service, you can usually find us spending time together. Whether we’re grabbing dinner in Downtown LA, or heading to the beach for a bonfire, we enjoy being together like a tight-knit family.
We work to develop leadership in our members through a number of programs. Our extensive Executive Board provides members with a variety of opportunities to practice leadership skills. We also hold workshops every semester to develop such skills as communication, teamwork, and adaptability.
We strive to demonstrate our three cardinal principles, Leadership, Friendship, and Service, in our everyday lives, whether we’re at an APO event or not. If you want to develop your leadership skills, help the community, and make friends while you’re at it, then APO is the organization for you.
