Ever wonder what city lobbying looks like? Ever wonder how you can utilize your policy knowledge with direct advocacy to engage community members and/or city officials?

Please join PELA in our Direct City Advocacy Training to learn those skills! We have invited Norma Rodriguez from the Center of Policy Initiatives (CPI) to teach us direct city advocacy & lobbying.

Norma Rodriguez was most recently the Organizing Director for the Center on Policy Initiatives, a nonprofit research and action institute dedicated to advancing economic equity for working people and diverse communities in San Diego. She has managed successful community and labor coalitions to pass city-wide ordinances including the Property Value Protection Ordinance and the minimum wage and earned sick days ordinance through city council lobbied at the city level. In addition, she served on the ACLU of San Diego and Imperial Counties Board of Directors and served as Commissioner on the City of San Diego Arts and Cultures Commission and helped develop the advocacy to increase funding for the commission. Her previous experience includes grassroots organizing focused on immigration and civic participation.

By the training’s conclusion, you will know the answers to the above questions and engage in a meaningful lobbying role-play to solidify those skills.
