Cloud House began as a project between two Santa Cruz natives, Elliott Kay and Lucas Heinel. The duo grew up playing music together but took different musical routes with Lucas pursuing a career in audio engineering and Elliott studying music performance and composition. While backpacking through Central America last summer, the two friends decided to blend their different talents in a project that combines elements of jazz, hip-hop, dub reggae, and a variety of world music influences. Now attending UCLA’s Department of Ethnomusicology, Elliott Kay has put together a band of Jazz Studies majors to bring to life the studio recordings that Lucas and he will soon release on their upcoming record.
