Tim Hawkinson & Patty Wickman
Staring Off In The Same Direction

Azusa Pacific University Department of Art & Design is pleased to announce the exhibition of internationally renowned husband and wife artists, Tim Hawkinson & Patty Wickman. The exhibition is on view in Duke Gallery January 15 – March 11, 2016, with a reception for the artist, guests, and the public on Friday, January 15 from 7pm to 8pm.

The exhibition kicks off a semester long artist residency with Wickman and Hawkinson in the Art & Design Department of Azusa Pacific University. They will be giving lectures, workshops, and studio visits to both the undergraduate and MFA students throughout the Spring 2016 semester.

Though they have exhibited together in larger group shows, this will be the first time the husband and wife duo exhibit in a two-person show. The exhibition will feature both new and older works by the artists. Wickman’s highly refined narrative paintings appear quite different from Hawkinson’s playful sculptures; yet, both explore the human condition. In their unique ways, they invite us to reflect on and embrace our own embodied nature replete with inherent peculiarities, frailties, and limitations.

Tim Hawkinson (b. 1960, San Francisco) has exhibited in the Venice Biennale, and Whitney Biennial. Solo exhibitions include Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, J. Paul Getty Museum, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney, Australia. He is currently represented by PACE Gallery (New York) and Blum & Poe Gallery (Los Angeles).

Patty Wickman (b. 1959, Pasadena) is Professor of Drawing and Painting at UCLA and has exhibited nationally and internationally including, San Jose Museum of Art, Denver Museum of Art, and the Hunter Museum of Art, Tennessee.
