Grad student Micah Johnson of the Monti Lab will present his research about the following:
Language, logic, action, music, math, mentalizing - these high-level cognitive abilities rely on syntactic manipulation of hierarchical structures. The big question is this: To what degree are the cognitive/neural processes of language hierarchy also causally involved in other "structure-dependent" cognition? To address this question, we use theta-burst stimulation (TBS) to modulate activity of neuronal networks driven by the inferior frontal gyrus, i.e. the language-related Broca's area, in order to assess their influence on the behavioral performance of adults in tasks of language and hierarchical thought.
